Yeah...which sucks. Shenmue 2 has some good music on it. Maybe a soundtrack will one day emerge. :)

Explaining the chapter structure of Shenmue is a bit complicated. The first game is the first chapter, and there were 16 total chapters planned, with the sequels containing more than one of these chapters. I believe Shenmue 2 contains chapters 3-6 or something.

Shenmue 2 never had a soundtrack release

I've only listened to the Orchestra CD, as I own it. I know I need to get around to hearing the soundtrack proper. Was there a chapter 2? Or is that Shenmue 2?

He oversaw most of the music going into the game, and was involved with pretty much all pieces, except Yuzo's. Not taking anything away from Iuchi at all, I agree with you, but alot of his songs play around the compositions done by Mitsuyoshi. I'm not denying the bias however ;)

He may have been sound director, but he only wrote 5 pieces. He and Yuzo Koshiro are the big names, but Koshiro only wrote 3 pieces.

http://vgmdb.net/album/595

I would say the real credit belongs to Ryuji Iuchi, followed by Osamu Murata, wouldn't you? Both relatively unknown names, but Iuchi wrote most of the tracks, including Shenfa (Shenhua ~Sedge Flower~), which is right up there with Shenmue (~Sedge Tree~) in terms of memorable tracks.

I think your love of Mitsuyoshi colors a bias into this review.

That said, I think it's an awesome soundtrack that definitely deserves SotM status. And you mentioned those damn sailors at the end of your article. :P
