While I rarely get the opportunity to talk about him here, Vince DiCola is one of my favorite musicians of all time. Not only did he score The Transformers, the animated film and Rocky IV 1980s, but he has released a slew of amazing solo and group-based efforts of the past twenty-plus years that are definitely worth your attention.
It was an absolute tragedy that DiCola wasn’t brought on to at least contribute to the recent Transformers film by Michael Bay, but DiCola is back to give it another shot. This video, titled “Invasion of the Machines (Pt. 1)” is a tribute to robot films throughout the decades, but more importantly, the music playing throughout the video, ” BOUND & GAGGED,” is DiCola’s demo submission for the upcoming Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen. With DiCola on keyboards and drums, Kenny Meriedeth on guitars, and Rick Livngstone belting out some killer vocals, I hope Bay opens up his ears and includes the song in this film. Also, the fact that this piece is titled “(Pt. 1),” hopefully there are more treats like this in store for fans in the future.

The only thing I’ve heard from Vince Dicola is his arrangement of “Moon Over the Castle” from Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The verdict? It kicks ass!
The sample above also kicks ass. I also hope it’s included in the upcoming movie!
DiCola’s work on the original, un-whored Transformers movie was legendary. I still carry that soundtrack in the car, and there’s usually at LEAST one track on my iPod at all times. He should have been included on the more recent Transformers movie (which I ONLY saw becuase of Peter Cullen’s inclusion) and he should definitely be included in the new one, no doubt. If he had worked on the first new movie’s soundtrack, I might have been more inclined to see it in the theater as opposed to torrenting it in protest of Michael Bay’s money-centric franchise killing.
The more I hear from fans, the more I realize that a lot of people didn’t like the movie. I actually enjoyed it a lot. I would have rather had Megatron and Starscream speak, and have some more funky and less realistic character designs, but it was funny, and the autobots were pretty awesome.
Music is rad. Vocals are terrible. They ruin the song.
Music actually reminds me of Dream Theater.
