Monarch: Heroes of a New Age OST Released

If you’re a fan of MMORPGs and the music associated with them, this might just tickle your fancy. The Korean game Monarch: Heroes of a New Age features a gorgeous orchestral soundtrack and an accompanying arrangement album that is sure to please fans of sweeping score and memorable melodies.

Korean composer Goomin  “Nauts ^[2]” Nam, who composed for games like the drink mixing sim game Bar Oasis, has put together a fantastic and diverse assortment of music to accompany the fantasy MMORPG. If that’s not enough, the arrangement album, Monarch: Heroes of a New Age Arrangements & Variations, features an equally diverse cast of guest arrangers including Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater composer Norihiko Hibino and pianist AYAKI, as well as arrangements from Dale North and Joshua Morse.

When asked about any inspiration he drew and why an arrangement album was released at the same time as the Monarch OST, Nam had this to say:

I didn’t get inspiration from a particular game. In fact, my biggest concern was to have my own color. 

Personally, I wanted Monarch: Heroes of a New Age’s music to be somewhere in between game musics of both the East and the West. So whilst the make up might be close to American game music, I tried to make the melodies and sentiments in the music feel like those that’s liked in Asia.

 

Many things were discussed during the preparation stage, but there was a very practical reason for having an additional arrangement album: there was just too much run time to put into a single album. All four artists in the arrangement album were contacted by Jayson Napolitano of Scarlet Moon Productions, the producer of the two albums. And as you can see, or hear, all the pieces in the arrangement album are just fantastic.
