GameLark To Release Tribute Album to the “Chrono” Series of Games

Last year, the group GameLark released a tribute album to the composers of Rare and the music they produced over the developer’s tenure. This year, they plan to pay homage to a game series that has equally impacted video game music fans for an entire generation.

At the End of Time: A Tribute to Chrono Crono Cross & Chrono Trigger is a 17 track arrangement album that blends a variety of genres into one giant accolade to the series and to the composers of Chrono Trigger (Yasunori Mitsuda) and Chrono Cross (Nobuo Uematsu). A combination of surf rock, progressive metal, orchestral and more are represented on the album by GameLark contributors such as Toxodentrail, Daniel Romberger, Xnarky and the rest of the community.

The video game music label GameLark has released a brand new album dedicated to the tribute of the music composers of the games released over the years by video game developer Rare.

Rarities is an album dedicated to the iconic composers of Rare that shaped an entire generation of gamers. Featuring tracks from classic games like Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Donkey Kong Country, as well as Yooka-Laylee, Rarities is sure to scratch that nostalgic itch. Rarities is fully licensed and available on iTunes and other digital retailers.

Featuring arrangements of the music from legendary composers Grant Kirkhope and Davis Wise (We’ll say Robin Beanland and Graeme Norgate too, since both composed Killer Instinct and worked with either Wise or Kirkhope on several other Rare titles featured on this album), Rarities is a 14-track dedication to years of game music memories.

Final Fantasy Remix Album “Mog’s Mixtape” A Series Tribute

On October 7, GameLark will be releasing Mog’s Mixtape; a loving tribute to the Final Fantasy series featuring over 30 artists and 2 hours of covers. The album features music from every main game in the series, from Final Fantasy I to XIV, and even Final Fantasy Tactics. Listeners will enjoy some of the most popular tracks from the series as well as some of the more obscure. With a vast array of genres represented, Mog’s Mixtape is the most dynamic and eclectic album that GameLark has released to date. In fact, the variety and volume of music required a different approach to the album arrangement.

“Given the sheer amount of music on the album, it made sense to separate this into two distinct musical journeys,” says Allen Brasch, GameLark creator and manager. “Disc 1 is a more light-hearted affair with battle themes and beautiful soundscapes. Disc 2 presents a more arduous journey and ends with the Game Over theme. Each disc stands on its own and can be experienced individually or together. It’s really the listener’s choice.” No matter how you decide to listen to this album, the works of Nobuo Uematsu and other composers will come to life in captivating ways. Materia Collective Releases Newest Album: VERSUS

Fighting game competition EVO is going on this weekend, and as such the game music label Materia Collective has partnered up with game community GameLark to create and release a double album full of fighting game music arrangements to celebrate the event.

VERSUS brings Materia Collective and GameLark together to create a unique double-album of fighting game remixes. The album itself is also a friendly competition between the two groups, who have previously worked individually on a wide range of remix albums of video game covers. VERSUS includes music from Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, and many more.

“VERSUS was a perfect opportunity to show the collaborative nature of the VGM community,” says Allen Brasch, founder and head of GameLark. “We see countless collaborations between individual artists so I thought, why not collaborate between labels?”

The album spans two discs with 47 tracks full of arranged music from almost every big fighting game you can think of. I personally like that “Holy Orders” from Guilty Gear XX was snuck in, reminding me how much I have to get back into that game.
