The Legend of Zelda might be coming to Netflix who should write the music?

[1]
Last week there was a rumour circulating that Netflix has plans to produce a family friendly game of thrones style series based on The Legend of Zelda. Neither Netflix or Nintendo has made any official statement to confirm if this is true but if it does happen there will be treasure trove of new Zelda music produced for the series.

The best music ever created for a live action version of Zelda was the brief score Stuart Balcomb wrote for IGN Entertainment’s 2008 April Fool’s trailer [2] produced by Rainfall. The music from that trailer is available for a free download [3] from the composer’s website and may help you get by until the music from the new series arrives.

Do you have any thoughts on who should write the music for the series?

I don’t really care who does it, but if they don’t use the actual music (like in the way that the Silent Hill film series did), then I care about 99% less about this. The music is iconic as the green tunic and they had better include it!

Michael Giacchino <– This guy is a chameleon! I don't possess the technical language to express this, but he's my definition of musical nostalgia. Giacchino is to classic movies and TV shows like Jake Kaufman is to 8bit music.

Michael Giacchino in collaboration with Koji Kondo. I lack the necessary musical theorey language to express myself, but Giacchino is musical nostalgia to me. When it comes to music related to existing material, It’s never lazy. Always exciting to hear how he respectfully uses and references the good old stuff and it sounds like he’s just having a blast with it.

Second choice Jonne Valtonen and Roger Wanamo, but may be a little high brow for TV (they teased the Zelda theme for soooooo long in last year’s London concert). I did get a Spaghetti Western feel from some of their arrangements.

I think a collaboration with Koji Kondo would be excellent and whether or not a composer collaborates with him – Kondo’s music is essential to the score. I love the idea of Michael Giacchino MisterKIKI, I love his work. I have a feeling that Jeff Beal, who has written the excellent scores for Netflix’s highly successful House of Cards might be a contender. But I have a feeling that a lot of composers would like to work on this project, if it happens. 🙂

I’d have to go with either Ramin Djawadi or Nicholas Hooper, possibly in collaboration with one or two of the Zelda composers.
