Watch JDK Band Live 2010, Live!

[1]

That’s right.  Last minute update: Falcom just announced that their JDK Band summer concert on August 21st, 2010 at Liquid Room in Tokyo will be broadcasted live for everyone around the world via USTREAM [2].  Lucky you!  I’ll be there in person for both shows of course.

The first stage [3] is a dramatic performance by the voice actresses from  Sora no Kiseki set to BGM played live by JDK Band.  [Update: Apparently the first stage will not be streamed, but at least you can catch the second stage from all around the globe. Our apologies!]

The second stage [3] is JDK Band’s live performance.  The big one.  Expect to hear lots of songs from Falcom’s latest game Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga (which is mainly JDK Band remakes of previous Falcom themes anyway), as well as some  old favorites from previous performances.  Be sure to check that one out at 6:00PM Japan Standard Time.

Certainly cheaper than the thousand bucks plus I was prepared to fork out for this one. Yay! 🙂

While I didn’t care about their music as much as everybody does, it was really a satisfying affair. Maybe I’d have been more satisfied with less vocals, but still. It’s simply amazing Falcom provided this live streaming FOR FREE. It was definitely much more enjoyable than youtube or DVD which we would watch later.

Thanks for the heads up. That was an awesome concert too, and I hope more Japanese concerts do this!

Cedille: something I realised as I was watching the stream, and remembering my own JDK experience way back in 2007 (the Ys 20th Anniversary concert), is that Japanese tastes and Western tastes even with something as supposedly niche as JDK are possibly quite different. I think we Westerners (even those of us with Asian heritage) gravitate to the heavier non-vocal tracks of JDK, be it the rock/metal goodness of, say, SCIAS/Strongest Foe, or the orchestral arrangements via Yukihiro Jindo, whereas the Japanese dig the jpop style of Kotera and the, let’s face it, Kageyama-style cheese of Ikarus. It’s good cheese, but honestly, wouldn’t most of us rather hear a non-vocal version of Mighty Obstacle or Release of the Far West Ocean live?

That’s just a vague and very superficial observation though. I would be completely content with a full non-vocal concert of, say, Ys SEVEN+Origin+Felghana highlights, but I don’t think it’d fly given the climate of current JDK concert expectations.

It was still a totally worthy experience, as a stream. Superior sound quality, good chat room atmosphere and really, a fine alternative to being there. Given the playlist, I’m glad this wasn’t the concert I shelled out 1k+ to see.
