Hey kids! Guess what happened? That’s right, more Dragon Quest soundtracks are coming your way. On August 5, 2009, the Dragon Quest IX soundtrack was released alongside reprints of all the Tokyo Metropolitan recordings of the eight prior DQ Symphonic Suites, which had been released via Aniplex. All of these new reprints are coming from King Records.
On October 7, 2009, even *more* DQ soundtracks were reprinted. If you look at a list of the reprints (check out Play-Asia or VGMdb), you may be confused. Why are there two different catalog numbers for the Dragon Quest V Symphonic Suite? And not just V, but pretty much all of them?
Well, the August 5th reprint covered the Aniplex Tokyo Metropolitan releases. On October 7, they reprinted Sony Records’ London Philharmonic releases, as well as the NHK Orchestra releases (from a variety of publishers). There are also some re-releases of gaiden titles in the Dragon Quest series, as well as a few random arrange albums. All told, there are over 20 Dragon Quest soundtracks reprinted this month. Most of them were long out of print and obscure releases. If you want these albums, it’s worth doing the research to learn about the differences in each recording style to decide which series you want. My personal favorite is the Tokyo Metropolitan, but a lot of people prefer the London Philharmonic. If you know your Symphonic Suites, weigh in on which is best in the comments section to help out curious consumers!

Freaking crazy. I wonder why he ditched his SUGIlabel for King Records. Cool that they’re reprinting everything, and it sounds like people are going to have a lot of music to sift through. They just reprinted this stuff on Aniplex, so it’s more confusing than ever.
it IS confusing. What’s even more confusing is that, I think, they’re still calling this “Sugilabel” even though it’s switched from Aniplex to King. It has its OWN catalog number prefix (KICC instead of KICA). completely insane.
Sugiyama has probably started denying that these original albums were ever released or something. Let’s call it a “fact”.
Bennet … LOL!
You’re one of a select few commenters to actually make me laugh. Historical revisionist joke noted. I loved it. Good work!
I Love All the Dragon Quest Symphonic Suites their Like classical to me but when I Listen to Koichi Sugiyama’s Jazzy Casino tunes I feel Like he’s trying to scare you with The sound beats of Trumpets And trombones I all so Like his Love Themes Because He’s saying he’s in Love with a Girl and making her happy I’ve been Listening to Koichi Sugiyama’s Dragon Quest compositions for a long time But I Love all his other compositions he composed as Well every time I Listen to his music I Think of Him Because I Met Him And I Miss Him so Much and his music means so much to me But I Love when the boos theme to battle for the glory comes in it’s Like he’s gonna slap you in the Face after the way you Just treated Him and betrayed him But I Know He’s A Very Kindhearted Man when it comes to his music because thats how he shows his feelings
