Alright people, in case you haven’t seen this yet, check out the new trailer for Square Enix’s upcoming MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, scored by series veteran Nobuo Uematsu.
The trailer has new music, including a great battle theme (or what we presume will be a battle theme at any rate). Frankly, I’m getting to the point where I’m itching to know just how much music Uematsu has written for the game’s initial release. Will the OST be one disc, or two, or even three? I can’t wait to hear it all!
Given Square Enix’s talk about the game’s release window, hopefully we’re now less than a year away from this game’s release (and, hence, the full soundtrack release). But it could come as late as December 2010. Hopefully more trailers like these will come to hold us over.
“I really Love Koichi Sugiyama’s music his symphonic melody’s are Like Classical to me even when his Town Themes Have a Jazzy Big Band tune With Trumpets and Trombones in it it calms me down And I Have his Jazzy rhythms inside of me even when I hear them it’s like he’s being a big Jeark but when I also Listen to his Love themes he’d saying that he wants to make a girl Happy because he cares about her and he Loves her I’ve actually met Him in 2007 And I Miss him so Much became he was so nice to me when he walked right up to me and because he was very Kindhearted man even if he’s 78 years old I don’t want him to Die I really miss him so much and I’ll always Love him and his music forever and ever”
The lack of punctuation and general grammatical awkwardness could be due to poor schooling, or perhaps she was just too excited to take a breath in virtual space. Look, we all get excited about Sugiyama around here. The man is a legend, even if he has some wacky political views. But sometimes it’s good to chill out, just a bit.
To witness Brittany’s full love of Sugiyama, check out the above video, where she claims she met Sugiyama. One of those photos looks a little… off… to me. Photoshop? Maybe. But she insists that they’ve met, and she’s so happy to proclaim it that she makes the statement in nearly every one of her 34 replies to comments for this video.
It’s really so over-the-top, that I have to wonder if she’s serious, or if this is some elaborate ruse to make the fanboys and fangirls out there.
Is this a joke or the ultimate act of fandom? You be the judge!
EDIT Sept 3, 2009, 3:20pm PST — it looks like the ‘net police have pulled down this video. Seems Ghibli didn’t want to be associated with the musical stylings of “The Lonely Island.” All you subversive rebels, feel free to post alternate links of this video in the comments section so it can be saved for posterity. It was THAT good, agreed?
ORIGINAL POST — Okay, so I was preparing a review for the Ponyo soundtrack (coming soon!), when I came across this incredibly well-done mash-up vid on YouTube. You’ll want to check it out. The Lonely Island’s instant classic “I’m On A Boat” is synchronized perfectly with scenes from Miyazaki’s latest. The lip syncs are decent, but what really stands out are the relevant scenes from the movie played alongside hilarious lyrics, making said scene even more hilarious. Case in point: “I’m ridin’ on a dolphin, doin’ flips and shit…” (starting at 0:55). It seems to be a pretty recent addition to the Internet. YouTube author “The Switcher” has done a great job with it. I hope he/she has more clever ideas up his/her sleeve. Anyway, enjoy!
The Gregory Brothers are some of YouTube’s newest celebrities. They started out humbly on the ‘net, doing “Debate in Song and Dance” videos for the 2008 presidential race. They’ve since expanded to general news (though mostly political news, still) with their “Auto-Tune the News” series, which is taking the ‘net by storm.
We know it’s not game or anime music. But if this isn’t “nerd” music, we don’t know what is.
In our interview with them, we ask about their work as a “family” band, the Angry Gorilla character, their take on politics, their music, and a whole lot of random, hilarious stuff. These guys (plus one girl) are some of the most interesting people we’ve ever interviewed, and they’re definitely what we would consider a “rising star” in the world of internet celebrities. Fortunately for them, they’re making their way through actual talent, rather than silly memes and viral trends.
After the jump, our exclusive interview with The Gregory Brothers (and lots and lots of embedded YouTube).
Compared to the last video, which was meant for the sake of humor (though the music still sounded great), these fan arrangements are meant to be serious musical endeavors. And it shows. After the jump, check out Freddie do an incredible multi-instrument acoustic arrangement from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and a great electric guitar medley of songs from Mega Man 9!
[Editor’s Note: Contributor David “Dhsu” Hsu has been involved with the video game remixing scene for quite some time and is a pretty amazing pianist. Check out his OCR profile and his post below about the Diablo III performance at PAX by The OneUps!]
It’s been a good week for fans of OneUp Studios, with their release of The OneUps Volume 2 and the Bad Dudes’ Sagat-themed Thai Guy EP. The week has also been equally bountiful for Diablo music lovers, who got a double-whammy of Diablo II and Diablo III tracks on iTunes. Both of these demographics got a special treat at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo (or “PAX” to us nerds) when The OneUps performed the Diablo series’ Tristram theme live as an encore after their action-packed set at the concert on Friday night, which also featured other geek favorites Freezepop and Jonathan Coulton. If you wanted a chance to relive those memories, or were like me and missed the whole shebang due to not having a few hundred dollars lying around, you can catch a video of their rockin’ cover after the jump.
Alright, so we admit we borrowed this idea from the Cocoebiz team, but it was such a good idea that I couldn’t pass it up. I thank them numerous times in our introductory video, so it’s okay, right?
So here it is, the OSVchannel. Episode one basically demonstrates how big of a nerd I am as I tell viewers about the site and show off my over-crowded workspace. I then play a sample from a certain videogame we reviewed recently, and announce a special contest for signed copies of this same soundtrack. Which soundtrack, you ask? Well, you’ll just have to watch and find out! Head on over and subscribe to the channel and leave your comments (and hate messages) for the world to see.
Regarding contest details, send your YouTube videos, photos, and text about your experience with the music from this title to [email protected]. We’ll accept submission until September 18, which is two weeks from today. Oh yeah, and to give you guys a little hint, you may want to mention the composer’s music who sent us these albums for the contest. It may or may not help, you never know!
As always, feel free to send us tips regarding stuff you think we should be covering at [email protected], and let us know if you have ideas for how we can make the OSVchannel awesome. Be sure to include your name so we can thank you!
What do you think of our debut episode on the OSVchannel? Is my nerdiness so overwhelming that we should look into getting another anchor?
